Three more states—Connecticut, Nevada, and Louisiana—are introducing laws to ban sweepstakes casinos, citing consumer risks and illegal gambling concerns.
Several states are moving to follow Montana’s decision to ban sweepstakes casinos. Connecticut, Nevada, and Louisiana are all working on new laws that would make these sites illegal.
- Connecticut (SB1235): Would label sweepstakes gambling as illegal online casino play and let regulators take civil action against operators.
- Nevada (SB256): Would hand out strong penalties to anyone offering money-based games without a gaming license.
- Louisiana (SB181): Would make it a crime to promote unlicensed sweepstakes casinos, with punishments that could even include jail time.
If these bills pass, operators running dual-currency sweepstakes platforms would have fewer states where they can legally operate.
Why Is This Important:
Lawmakers from both political parties are showing more agreement that sweepstakes casinos need stricter rules—or complete bans. This is especially true in states that already have strong land-based casino industries.
